Complete Construction Service carried out balcony waterproofing rectification across three units at an apartment building at 232–242 Rouse Street, Port Melbourne. The original waterproofing had failed in each unit, so we removed the old system completely and installed a new Tremco Vulkem waterproofing system, backed by a 10-year warranty.

Three units, one building, one standard to hit. The old waterproofing had let water through, and once we stripped back the balconies we found hairline cracking in the concrete that wasn’t visible until the tiles and screed came off.

All three units needed the same finish. Each balcony called for a pedestal paver system, so we kept the waterproofing process and the final layer identical across every unit.

We ran the same rectification process on every balcony:

  • Stripped back the old tiles, adhesive, and screed to bare concrete
  • Cleared all demolition waste off-site
  • Ground the concrete surface back and treated any cracks we found
  • Rebuilt the screed to correct the falls, so water actually reaches the drains
  • Applied the Tremco Vulkem waterproofing membrane, with primer & upturns at every wall & threshold
  • Reinforced every joint, corner, outlet, and penetration to close off any weak points
  • Allowed proper curing time before moving to the finish

Once the membrane was down and cured, we installed a pedestal paver system across all three balconies. Every balcony was cleaned and handed back ready to use.

Outcome

All three balconies now share the same Tremco Vulkem waterproofing system, backed by a 10-year warranty. The building owners now have consistent, long-term waterproofing across every unit, and the balconies are back to being usable, dry spaces.
