Project Overview
Complete Construction Service team carried out a large-scale roof renewal at the Qantas building, Melbourne Airport under supervision of Fahid Ziaei. The job covered 600m² of roofing and included full removal of the old torch-on membrane, screeding to correct the falls, and installation of a new Torch-On sheet membrane system.
The existing torch-on membrane had reached the end of its service life. Water was pooling across parts of the roof, and the surface had gone uneven in places, creating a risk to both safety and the building’s long-term condition. On top of that, we had to carry out the whole job inside a working airport, under strict security and compliance requirements, without disrupting daily operations.
The Solution
We removed the old torch-on waterproofing system across the full 600m² roof and ground back the concrete substrate to clear residue and get a clean, even surface. From there, we screeded the entire roof to correct the levels and rebuild proper falls, so water runs to the drains instead of sitting on the surface.
Once the base was ready, we installed a new Torch-On sheet membrane system across the whole roof, giving it fresh, reliable waterproofing built to handle Melbourne’s weather long-term. Every stage of the work was coordinated within the airport’s high-security environment, with our team working around live operations the entire time.
Outcome
The roof now has a level, well-drained surface and a new Torch-On waterproofing system installed to spec. Water pooling is gone, the risk to the roof structure is resolved, and the building has long-term protection against future leaks. We delivered the project on time and to a high standard, without any disruption to Qantas or airport operations a strong example of what our team can handle on large, high-security commercial sites.
