Complete Construction Service installed new porch pavers at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery. The job covered the front porch and podium area, roughly 188m² in total, and followed the building’s architectural drawings from start to finish.

A council building needs a higher standard of finish than most jobs — every joint and edge is on public display. We also had to work with the existing concrete falls and keep the paving pattern symmetrical across a large area, which meant getting the layout right before we cut a single paver.

We started by checking the concrete substrate: clean, stable, and free of debris, with falls that matched the drawings. Once that passed, we applied Mapei Primer G across the surface to get a strong bond for the adhesive.

Next, we set out the full paving grid against the architectural drawings, adjusting the layout to keep it symmetrical and cut down on unnecessary paver cuts. With the site supervisor’s sign-off, we moved into installation:

  • Laid 600 x 600 x 30mm pavers using ARDEX X17 Tile & Stone Adhesive
  • Kept full adhesive coverage and even joint widths across the whole area
  • Followed the existing concrete falls to keep drainage working properly
  • Cut every paver with a wet saw for clean, sharp edges around penetrations
  • Fitted bat trims to all exposed edges for a tidy finish
  • Grouted every joint with Mapei grout and cleaned back the excess

We ran the works in two stages to keep the site accessible and coordinate cleanly with the building’s operations. The whole job was done in four working days.

Outcome

The Glen Eira City Council Gallery now has a fully paved porch and podium area that matches the architectural drawings precisely, with clean joints, tidy edges, and consistent falls for proper drainage. We delivered the project on time, in four working days, without disrupting the building’s day-to-day use.
